I gotta wear shades

I am in love with this Persol commercial. It's illustrated by Kevin Dart and is just full of 60's awesomeness. I want to live in this commercial.

Artists that make cool stuff: Jillian Tamaki

Jillian Tamaki is a current illustrator based out of NYC. I love her graphic style. She also has embroidered covers for Penguin Books. I never thought of embroidering as a way of illustrating until I found Tamaki.

Vogue It

Vogue has released images of their covers from the last 120 years. Call me old fashioned but I can't help but wish they still used hand drawn images and non-celebrity pics on their covers. I'm a sucker for interesting typography so some of these covers hooked me with that. Nicely done Vogue, nicely done.

Dancing Fingers

What a fun Chanel ad, I always am excited to see what nail colors they'll be showcasing.

Richie Fashion

Nicole Richie is one of my fashion icons. I love her effortless, breezy style. Her attention to accessories and detail always completes her outfits. There's a lot of inspiration to be found in her style and I try to translate some of it into what I wear, even though I'm not a fashion-forward celebrity.

First look

The cover of a magazine is the first thing you see, it needs to be engaging and inviting. I'm drawn to covers with great color palettes or have a unique look. Here are some of my picks:

Impressed

Just finished reading a book about Renoir. Impressionism is da bomb.
Renoir, Luncheon of the Boating Party, 1880-81

Monet, Bridge, 1925

Cezanne, Montagne Sainte-Victoire about the Route du Tholonet

Mary Cassatt, Woman with Baby

I love that these artists not only focused on what they knew, but what they loved. Gotta hand it to them, there was a lot of passion going on.
